Obituary Online notes for Garnett Nelson HENSON III
Mr. Garnett Nelson Henson III, 69, of University Road died Saturday evening at Fitzgerald Center at Arbor Acres.
He was born in Gastonia on Aug. 3, 1933, to Garnett Nelson Henson Jr., and Eugenia Davis Henson.
He was a graduate of Davidson College and a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
Mr. Henson was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 40 years and had served as an elder, a deacon and in other offices.
He was retired from Wachovia Bank and prior to the bank, he was with the Booke and Co. (Aon Corp.). He was a Kiwanian.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Anne Alexander Henson, in September 2001.
Surviving are his two daughters, Catherine H. Kinniburgh and husband, Mark, of McLean, Va., and Garnett H. Richards and husband, Dick, of Wake Forest; six grandchildren, Annie, Mary, Charlie and Sarah Kinniburgh and John and Genie Richards.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. today with Drs. Russell H. Ritchel, Jr., Jeff White, David Burr and the Rev. Donna McClellan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium Fund, 300 Cherry St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101, to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the donor's choice.
Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the Henson family.
