Chester Eugene “Rabbit” Cox


    Chester Eugene “Rabbit” Cox, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Randolph County and the husband of the late Mary Catherine Harris Cox.
    Chester was a retired farmer growing tobacco and raising livestock. He attended West Burlington Church of God and served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
    He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Darlene Hinshaw and husband, Randy, of Graham; sons, Gary Dean Cox and Danny Clay Cox, both of the home; Troy Cox and his wife, Corrina, of Elon, Allen Cox and his wife, Betty, of Burlington and Jerry Wayne Cox and his wife, Linda, of Elon; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Melinda Jefferson of Burlington and brother, William Cox and his wife, Sarah of Burlington and Henry Cox also of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Dwight Edward Cox; and parents, Oscar and Augusta Lee Jones Cox.
    A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday,
May 16, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Olin Tatum and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service and other times at the home of Allen Cox on Claude Simpson Road in Burlington.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
