Margaret Ross Lindley

Margaret Ross Lindley, 98, Johnson City, fell asleep in the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

She was born in Greene County on January 2, 1921, the first child of Lanty M. and Nell B. Ross.

She grew up in Blount County, Tennessee, where she attended Maryville College, later transferring to the University of Tennessee, graduating with a degree in Home Economics. She taught at Maryville High School, where she met her husband, James Marvin Lindley, who was also teaching there. In 1950 they moved to Johnson City when Mr. Lindley became band director at East Tennessee State College, serving in that capacity until his death in 1958.

Margaret remained in Johnson City; and after raising five sons, she taught Home Economics at University High School. In Washington County, she served as a county commissioner and was foreman of the grand jury for a number of years.

Margaret was a faithful Christian and member of Midway Presbyterian Church.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, James Marvin Lindley, and one son, James Marvin Lindley, Jr., her parents Lanty M. and Nell B. Ross; two sisters, Marinell R. Waggoner and Betty Ruth Ross.

Survivors include four sons with their wives; Ross and Lillie (Jonesborough); John and Angela (St. Louis, MO); Tom and Doris (Lenoir, NC); Sam and Karen (Johnson City); ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Special thanks to her long-time care giver Fay Kinley.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11:30 A.M.-1:30 P.M. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. at Midway Presbyterian Church, 4011 Old Jonesboro Rd., Jonesborough, with Rev. Ross Lindley officiating. The committal graveside service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

In-lieu-of flowers memorials may be made to Midway Presbyterian Church.
