    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Virginia Terrell Terry of Burlington, N.C. died at the Hospice Home on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at 8:05 a.m. after a threeyear battle with cancer.
    A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Calvin C. Terry and the daughter of Edward Terrell and Lucy Simmons Terrell, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Preston Terrell, George Terrell and Ben Terrell and two sisters, Pearl Terrell Tate and Erma Terrell Swift.
    Survivors include her son, Timothy Terry and wife Karen of Greensboro; four sisters, Selma Terrell Simpson of Raleigh, Lillie Terrell Walker and Mary Terrell Menefee, both of Burlington and Leona Terrell Chandler of Yanceyville; and many nieces and nephews. She was the third youngest sibling from a large family of ten.
    Mrs. Terry was a graduate of Anderson High School class of 1944 and a member of the basketball team. After high school, Mrs. Terry moved to Burlington, N.C. where she graduated from the Burlington Business School and worked briefly in a hosiery mill. She married Calvin C. Terry, of Chatham County, on June 28, 1948, and she and Calvin built a house and made a home together on May Drive in Burlington.Their sonTimothy was born in 1956, and Mrs. Terry became a homemaker and worked as a seamstress out of the home.
    Virginia and her husband, Calvin Terry were the owners and operators of “Terry Rentals” in Burlington, N.C, a Tool & Equipment Rental business they started together in 1978. Mrs. Terry’s husband, Calvin, died in 1990, but she continued to operate the business until 1998.
    Mrs. Terry was a member for over 50 years at First Christian United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School. Within the church, she was a member of the Iris McEwen Sunday School Class. She often held church “Circle Meetings” at her home, where attendees enjoyed her ice cream pie. She also participated in leading the Cub Scouts in previous years. Mr. and Mrs. Terry were also volunteers with Meals-On-Wheels program.
    Mrs. Terry loved her family, and was well aware of how fortunate she was to be part of such a large close-knit family. The family had, and continues to have, a yearly family reunion, which she attended this past April at Concord Church in Caswell County. This past July she celebrated her 85th birthday at the home of her sister Mary Menefee, in Burlington, along with her other sisters, Selma, Lillie, and Leona.
    The funeral service will be conducted at the First Christian United Church of Christ on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. by Dr. Mark Pickett. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.
    In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 and First Christian United Church of Christ, 415 South Church Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
    The family wishes to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, both the field staff, and the staff at “Hospice Home,” for their immense support for the past eight months.
    Thanks also to the First Christian United Church of Christ members and Pastor Mark Pickett for all of the cards, flowers and visits, whose support has meant so much.
    Thanks also to the staff at Blakey Hall in Elon College, N.C. for their help while she was living there.
    Thanks also to the staff, nurses, and doctors at the Cone Regional Cancer Center in Greensboro, N.C., including, Dr. Mohamed Mohamed and his staff, and the staff at the Wesley Long Community Hospital Radiology Dept.
    Thanks also to Mrs. Terry’s neighbors who assisted her while she was able to live at her home on May Drive in Burlington.
    Thank you to the family, especially Mrs. Terry’s four sisters, and her many nieces and nephews for all of their devoted love, time and attention.
