Henry George Summers
BURLINGTON — Mr. Henry George Summers, age 79, of 1842 Little John Lane West, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Hospice at the Meadowlands after several months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Joseph William Summers Sr. and the late Elizabeth Murray Summers and was married to the late Evelina Lindsay Cobb Summers, who died in 1980 and later was married to the late Barbara Woods Summers.
Mr. Summers was a former employee of Burlington Industries Plaid Mill, P. Lorillard Tobacco Company, Miller Brewery and was owner and operator of A’s Muffler Shop. He was an avid hunter and a member of Ala-Cas Hunting Club and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Summers is survived by three sons, James Reid Summers of Burlington, William George “Bill” Summers of Chantilly, Va. and Timothy Scott Summers and his wife, Juwana, of Burlington; four grandchildren, Meradith Nicole Summers, Rebecca Lynn Summers, Amanda Rose Summers and Robert Scott “Robbie” Summers; and a brother, Bernice Lee “Shorty” Summers and his wife, Betty Ann, of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his wives; parents; five sisters, Thelma “Tink” Smith, Willie “Bill” Perrotta, Mozelle “Doug” Garland, Mable Austin and Jean Webster; and two brothers, Joseph William “Bud” Summers Jr. and Ervin Clyde “E.C.” Summers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 20 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jerry Smith. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
