Benjamin Sylvester McKinney


Benjamin “Sylvester” McKinney, 85, peacefully left this world at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
He lived a life filled with love for family and friends. He never met a stranger and usually had a good story to tell. He was a man of integrity and always sought to live the Golden Rule.

Sylvester had a passion for golf especially his Friday group. “Paw-Paw” loved making wooden toys and gifting them to children big and small. Syl enjoyed the Pleasant Grove reunions and breakfasts with classmates.
Sylvester had a successful career as an industrial engineer with Kaiser-Roth, Slane Hosiery and Ithica Industries.
Sylvester is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jessie Joyce McKinney; daughter Sherrie (Terry) Waddell; son Greg McKinney; grandchildren, Alex Waddell of Texas, Cortlandt Waddell, Benjamin and Ashley McKinney and their mother Amanda McKinney; adopted daughter Teresa Boone; brother Samuel McKinney; Sister Nina (David) Cale.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Dewey McKinney and Viola Byrd McKinney; brothers Aubrey McKinney, William McKinney and sister Betty Foster.
The Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday April 21, at Lowe Funeral Home by pastor Darrell Massey with burial to follow at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
