June 10, 1920 ~ October 10, 2020 (age 100)

Mary Catherine Sharpe Shoffner, 100, of Burlington, gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2020 following two weeks of declining health.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Lewis Shoffner and the daughter of Johnnie Brackett Sharpe and Bessie Ellen May Sharpe, both deceased.

Mary worked in the textile industry as a looper for many years. She was a former member of Brick Reformed Church and a Charter member of Hearts on Fire Church in Gibsonville. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and member of the Active in Aging group in Gibsonville. She loved dancing and spending time with her family and friends. Mary never met a stranger.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Faye S. Kennedy and husband Terry of the home; two grandchildren, Tanya Kennedy Brooks and her fiancé Tim Lane of Burlington, Joshua Kennedy and wife Stephanie of Burlington; and two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Natalie Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by five sisters; Maggie Lowe, Emma Wellons, Blondie Sharpe, Betty Lou Sharpe and Gloria Sharpe; and one brother, Haskell Sharpe.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Brick Reformed Church with Rev. Jeff Neese. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 7:00pm until 8:30 pm at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington. At other times the family will be at the residence.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of AuthoraCare Collective Hospice for all the wonderful care given to Mary.
