Pearl Carter Graves
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Pearl Carter Graves, 91, of 2629 Jacobs Trail, Burlington, died at the Hospice Home of Burlington on Monday, March 1, 2010, at 12:35 p.m. following seven years of declining health.
A native of Robeson County, she was the daughter of Joel William Carter and Pearl Chason Carter, both deceased. She moved to Alamance County to work at Standard Hosiery Mill where she met James Cline Graves. They married in 1943 and he later passed away April 21, 2001.
Mrs. Graves was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and the Philathea Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter, Ms. Glenda Gayle Sizemore of Julian; two sons, Mr. J. Von Graves and wife Beth and Mr. Rudy M. Graves and wife Karen, all of Burlington; one brother, Mr. Carlton Carter of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at Friendship United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Henry Swanzey. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 1 hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends in the parlor of FriendshipUnitedMethodistChurch on Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
