Obituary Online notes for Nellie Lou GRAVES
Nell Graves Mooney, 98, of Burlington went to be with Jesus on September 29, 2018. She was a native of Alamance County.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Rev. Robert Mooney, Jr.; her parents, Joel and Bertha Graves; her three brothers, Smith, Wake, and Ben Graves; and her sister, Betty G. Braxton.
Nell served the Lord and His church as she partnered with her husband during the many years he was a pastor in the United Methodist Church. She taught classes, directed children's choirs, organized events, and gave freely of her time and talents. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Women.
She served as president of senior citizens groups at Friendship UMC and First UMC Graham. She was Alamance County Senior Citizen of the Year in 1992.
Nell was a talented and award – winning quilter. She donated proceeds from the sale of many of her quilts to churches and other charities. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, and cooking and excelled at them all. Nell loved working in her yard and garden. The garden at her church was named in her honor.
Above all, Nell's crowning achievement was creating a loving Christian home for her family. She was loved deeply and will be missed greatly.
