Rev. William “Bill” Skenes, Sr.
BURLINGTON - Rev. William “Bill” Howard Skenes, Sr., 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late John Fisher Skenes and Mildred York Skenes Humphries. He was the husband of 39 years to the late Nancy Lorene Wigington Skenes.
Rev. Skenes pastored for over 40 years at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Whitsett. He enjoyed sharing his testimony of how the Lord made him a new creature in Christ. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, golfing, Nascar and the Washington Redskins. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his daughters, Vickie Marley and husband, Tommy of Burlington, Cathy McRae and husband, Shannon, of Port St. Luci, Florida, Renee Stewart and husband, Mike of Burlington, Aline Goodman of Emerald Isle; sons, Ricky Walker and wife, Jeanette of Haw River, Howard Skenes of Burlington and Jerry Skenes of Greensboro; 20 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and daughters, Laurie Skenes Coble and Cheryl Lynette Skenes and 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Authoracare Hospice for their and kind and compassionate care.
The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel and the burial will follow in the Vickers Memorial Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Skenes will be available for viewing at Lowe Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00pm to 5:00 pm and on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 10:45am prior to the service. The family will be at the home at other times. The service will be live streamed on our website below.
In Lieu of flowers of memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, P O Box 33, Whitsett, NC 27233.
