VARINA, Va. — Homer Lee Ruff, 77, of Varina, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2009.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Homer was a retired supervisor for AT&T. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church; a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years and deacon for 51 years. Homer loved fishing and whittling. He was a devoted husband and father, a mentor and friend to his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Darryl L. Ruff and grandson, Bernie L. Hall.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Tempie; daughter, Denise Hall (John); son, Duane Ruff (Diane); brother, Lonnie Ruff of Mebane, N.C.; sister Hilda Somers of Elon, N.C.; grandchildren, Donnie (Julie), Brandi, Amber (Bart), Sarah (Daniel); numerous nieces and nephews; and special family member, Lisa Parsley.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Life Baptist Church, 6229 Osborne Turnpike, Richmond, Va. 23231. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston.
