October 24, 1931 ~ February 14, 2025 (age 93)
Betty Gilmore Rainey, 93, of Burlington peacefully passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the AuthoraCare Collective Hospice Home.
A native of Alamance County and a graduate of Walter Williams High School, she was the wife of the late Charlie “Red” Edward Rainey and daughter of the late Robert Samuel Gilmore and the late Minnie Lee Waddell. She was a retired employee of Burlington Industries after a long and distinguished career, and lifetime member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church.
She is survived and beloved by her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Ann Rickman (Tom); son, Charlie “Eddie” Edward Rainey, Jr. (Sharon); grandchildren, Kendall Rainey, Rustan Stewart (Keith) and Lauren Leager (Travis); step-grandchild, Tommy Rickman, Jr. (Audra); great-grandchildren, Weston Leager, Ames Leager, Kellan Stewart and Sutton Stewart; and sister, Margaret Grant. She cherished her family and was an avid card player throughout her life.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Forrester and Mary Smith and brothers, Gurney R. Gilmore, J. Cecil Gilmore, Ben H. Gilmore, K. Aubrey Gilmore and N. M. Gilmore.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the funeral service. The committal service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
