Obituary
Sara Copeland Maness of Burlington passed away at the age of 95 on August 26, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She is survived by two sons, Charles Maness (Susan) and Michael Maness, as well as five grandhildren, Geoffrey Maness, Suzanne Beran, Catherine Maness, Sara Amicci, Jessica Opitz and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Gladys Rhodes and one brother, Randal Copeland (Susan). She was preceded in death by brothers Wintson Copeland, Frank Copeland, James Copeland, sister Gerry Gant, daughter-in-law, Diane Maness and grandson Steven Maness.
Sara was born to Frank and Alice Copeland in Macon County, Alabama, where she lived until the family moved to Burlington when she was nine. She graduated from Burlington High School and Burlington Business College before beginning her fifty year career at Baker-Cammack Hoisery Mills, Burlington Industries and Kayser-Roth. Sara loved her jobs and was a great mentor to all that she worked with.
She was also passionate about her church, Hocutt Memorial Baptist, where she taught Sunday School for over forty years.
While busy with her career, her church and raising two sons, Sara still found time to grow her garden to provide food for family, friends, neighbors and charities. She worked in that garden until her late 80’s and it brought her great pride and many stories.
In recent years, Sara was fortunate to have two long time friends who assumed the role of care-givers, Joan and Marge. They made sure that she was attended to, happy and well-loved every day.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rich & Thompson Chapel, Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. 261, Sara Copeland Maness
