George Herman "Hoyt" Metcalf, 83, of Pittsboro, NC, passed away at the Hospice Home in Burlington, NC, at 4:05am on Sunday, June 7, 2015.
A native of Gaston County, NC, he was the husband of the late Ann Buckner Metcalf.
He was the son of the late Lewis Hoyt Metcalf and the late Dora Rabb Metcalf.
He was employed and then retired from UNC Hospitals.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a charter member of the Burlington Shrine Club; a member of the 103 Columbus Masonic Lodge for over 50 years; and a member of the Snow Camp American Legion Post 305.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include:
Daughter - Jan Beam of Apex, NC.
Son-in-Law - Mike Beam of Apex, NC.
Son - Mark Metcalf of Pittsboro, NC.
Granddaughter - Caroline Beam.
Grandson - Michael Beam.
Sister - Johnnie Moorefield of Burlington, NC.
Brother-in-Law - Bailey Moorefield of Burlington, NC.
Sister - Betty Knighten of Burlington, NC.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by:
Sister - Gaynelle Wire.
Sister - Sue Holbrook.
Step-Grandson - Paul Garrison.
The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham, NC, on Monday evening, June 8, 2015, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. At other times they will be at the residence.
The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 2:00pm by Rev. David Crowther and Rev. Brian Biggers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in George Metcalf's name may be made to:
