Kathleen Miles Stevens
BURLINGTON — Kathleen Miles Stevens, 83, formerly of Trail One, Burlington, died Jan. 1, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. at the Clare Bridge Care Facility of Burlington Manor.
A native of Caswell County, she was wife of the late Rev. Dr. W. Millard Stevens and the daughter of Allen Miles and Connie Chandler Miles, both deceased. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and Elon College where she received a B.A. degree in elementary education.
She previously worked as a secretary at First Christian United Church of Christ and the Alamance County Health Department. She also worked as a teacher in the High Point City Schools and the Burlington City Schools and was a member of the Burlington Woman’s Club.
Mrs. Stevens was a lifelong member of First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington where she was a Deaconess, a member of the Women’s Fellowship, and the Historian Emeritus of the church.
She loved to travel and enjoyed crafts, her pet cats, photography, and researching church and family history.
She leaves behind many beloved cousins and special caretaker, Sarah Simmons.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at the First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington. The Rev. Mark Pickett will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Ridge United Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Clare Bridge Care Facility and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for the care they gave to Kathleen in her last years.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be given to First Christian United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1678, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
