Ernest Garrison dies at age 101
BURLINGTON — John Ernest Garrison, 101, of Burch Bridge Road passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late “Squire” John W. and Esther Kernodle Garrison and husband of the late Ruth Boone Garrison. He retired from Burlington Industries after 42 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a founding member of the A-O Civitan Club. He was a lifelong northern Alamance County gardener who delighted in growing tomatoes, watermelons and corn.
Survivors include his son, Jerry Wayne Garrison, his “bestest” friend, Pat Allen; grandchildren, Tony Garrison and wife Denise, Chris Garrison and his girlfriend Crystal, Timothy Arnett and Nicole Linssen and husband Steve; great-grandchildren, Brittany Galentine and husband Jordan, Savannah Arnett, Gavin Arnett, Jonathan Linssen and Zach Linssen; greatstepgrandchildren, Scotty (fiancé Ashley) and Evan (girlfriend Hayley) Cashin and great-great-stepgrandchild Maddox Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Judy Garrison Isley; siblings, Joe, Clarence and Roy Garrison, Maude Wagoner, Ida Zimmerman, Una Gilliam and Lola Reeves.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Laura Dunlap, pastor. Interment will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery.
Mr. Garrison will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and other times at the home.
