William Orin Shatterly, age 86, passed away on November 28, 2014 at Wellington Place Assisted Living in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Bill was born in Burlington, North Carolina on September 6, 1928. He served in the United States Navy before establishing a career serving the military through civil service as a Fire Fighter. He rose to the rank of Fire Chief, proudly serving for a total of 32 years, and had been a resident of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, since 1973.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Shatterly, and one granddaughter, Cynthia Shatterly.
Bill is survived by two sons, three daughters, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 419 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the Alzheimer’s Disease Association South Alabama & Florida Panhandle, 223 West Gregory Street, Pensacola, Florida 32502, or to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Wellington Place, a Brookdale Facility, and the staff at Emerald Coast Hospice, for the loving care they both provided. The family also wishes to thank Yvonne Davis for the loving care she gave to Bill early in his illness.
A celebration of life service: 9:00am, Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, with Dr. Mickey Hawkins officiating.
Interment: at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, with military honors.
