Erma Dell Phillips Neal


    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Erma Dell Phillips Neal, 84, of Burlington died at Burlington Manor on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 12:30 a.m.
    Born in Glencoe, she was the wife of the late Theodore G. Neal and the daughter of George M. Phillips Sr. and Eva Pennington Phillips, both deceased. She retired from Roses Department Store with 50 years of service. Erma was a member of Zion Christian Church in Burlington.
    Survivors include two sons, Mr. Richard Neal and wife Jeanne of Graham and Mr. Patrick “Pete” Neal and wife Lori of Cary; one sister, Mrs. Helen Holland and husband James “Dink” of Burlington; one brother, the Rev. George“Jack” Phillips and wife Kathryn of Burlington; six grandchildren, Terri Mann of Raleigh, Robert Neal of Creedmoor, Russell Neal of Mebane, Teddi Neal of Greensboro, Megan Neal of Cary and Madison Neal of Cary; one great-grandchild, Geko Leon Neal of Greensboro; one sister-in-law, Rachel Phillips of Burlington; one brother-in-law, Dillard Witherow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert Phillips, Billy Phillips and Carey Phillips; five sisters, Opal Greeson, Pearl Terrell, Mexie Wyrick, Jean Witherow and Faye Phillips; four sisters-inlaw, Sylvia Stuart, Peggy Barber, Frances Phillips and Ruth Phillips; and four brothersin-law, Harry Neal, Irving Wyrick, Devoy Terrell and Walter Greeson.
    The funeral service will be conducted at Haw River United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jeanne Neal and the Rev. Howard Thompson. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence of the son, Richard Neal, 306 Graham Road, Graham.
