Harold M. Smith

 
 ELON — Harold Murphy Smith, 86, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 4, 2015. He was born in Caswell County November 28, 1928, to the late Silas Jerry and Lucinda Victoria Murphy Smith and was the husband of 56 years to Jean Marie Wallace Smith of the home.
 
 Harold was most recently a member of Belmont Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Andrew’s Memorial. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1947 and Elon University in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army and worked as an engineer for over 40 years at Western Electric (AT&T Lucent Technology) where he later retired. Harold was a faithful blood donor for the American Red Cross, a member of the NC Bee Association, the NC Professional Surveyors and Engineers and the AT&T Pioneers Association.
 
 Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter, Susan Smith Isley and husband Danny of Burlington; son, Stephen Harold Smith and wife Michele of Elon; grandchildren, Audrey Brown and husband Lee, Erica Smith and great grandchildren, Keegan and Conlan Brown. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Banks Smith and sisters, Christine Pickard, Sue Lindley and Helen Mitchell.
 
 A funeral service to celebrate
 
his life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel
 
by the Rev. Larry Janey and the Rev. Jack Phillips with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home.
 
 A special thanks to the caregiving staff at Liberty Commons and Hospice of Alamance for their loving care and support during his stay for the last two years.
