Allen Curtis Lewis Sr.

November 16, 1940 ~ February 24, 2022 (age 81)

Surrounded by his earthly family, Allen Curtis Lewis, Sr. of Mebane joined his Heavenly father on February 24, 2022 after 3 years of failing health and 6 weeks of critical illness. Allen, aka Big Al, was a 1959 graduate of Pleasant Grove High School. His passion was farming, and he owned and operated Lewis Plant Farm for many years. Upon retiring from Cortina Fabrics of Swepsonville, he and his wife, Sonaha, traveled for the next 15 years all over the United States and Canada. In addition to traveling, Allen and his family shared a love for music and Allen would often be found on the weekends playing guitar and singing with his buddies. Allen loved the Lord and had a servant’s heart. He was a former deacon with Longs Chapel Christian Church.

Survivors include his high school sweetheart and soulmate of 61 years, Sonaha Foster Lewis, daughter, Melissa Lewis Alcon Haugle and son Allen “Jay” Curtis Lewis Jr (Pam), all of Mebane. His pride and joy were his 6 grandsons: Joshua Alcon (Brittany) of Mebane, Jordan Lewis (Rachel) of Mebane, Ethan Alcon of Burlington, Ryan Lewis of Elon, Garrett Lewis of Mebane and Tyler Haugle of Mebane as well as his 3 great grandchildren: Madelyn Alcon, Wade Lewis and Isaac Lewis. Additionally, he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children: Robert Carter, Sammy Carter, Rita Hopkins and Lisa Simmons, as well as his sister-in-law’s Ilene Byrd and Kay Lewis.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Neva Madden Lewis, sister Liz Lewis Carter-Dixon, brother Ray W. Lewis, grandparents, Ed and Cora Allison Lewis, John and Elizabeth Noble Madden, 2 brothers-in-law Johnnie and Lonnie Foster, and traveling companion and brother-in-law, Irvin Byrd.

Service will be held at Long’s Chapel Christian Church, HWY 49 in Burlington, on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 2pm. Rev. David Wood will be officiating. Visitation will be at both the home and immediately following the service in the Long’s Chapel Christian Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to our cousin, Mary E. Jones for her kindness, faithfulness and willingness to help continue to care for Allen in the home. Words can never express our sincere appreciation and we are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Longs Chapel Christian Church, AuthoraCare Hospice of Burlington and/or the Pleasant Grove Fire Department.
261, Allen Curtis Lewis Sr.
