Patricia Ann  "Pat" Faucette Matthews 


    BURLINGTON — Patricia Ann  "Pat" Faucette Matthews , age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 28, 2006, surrounded by her loving children at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Guilford County, and the wife of the late William Henry Matthews .

    Pat graduated from Gibsonville High School and received her nursing degree from Saint Leo’s School of Nursing in Greensboro. She began her nursing career with Dr. Howard L. Little in Gibsonville, and then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a nurse with the rank of First Lieutenant, stationed at Ardmore Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Pat returned to Burlington and worked as a registered nurse at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Memorial Hospital and retired after 30 years of service. She was a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Circle Sunday school class. Pat was very active in her church and with the WMU Circle. She was a member of Senior Advantage at Alamance Regional Medical Center and the Retired Nurses Association of Alamance County. Pat was devoted to her family and church and she enjoyed spending time with her friends and taking trips to the coast.

    Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Carmen Clapp and her husband, Greg, of Whitsett, Teressa Campbell and her husband, Scott, of Burlington, Mary Jane Jeffries and her husband, Dee, of Graham and Lois Ann  Batley and her husband, Charles, of Burlington; sons, James Mendez of Gibsonville and Dennis Matthews  of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Lacy Clapp, Ben Clapp, and Heather M. Godwin.

    She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Mendez; husband, William Henry Matthews ; parents, Arthur Ben Clayton and Lois Alene May Faucette .

    The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Nickleston, and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home 1173 Lakeside Avenue, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
    Memorials may be made to Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church, 302 N. Logan Street, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
