Mr. Paul Harrell Harris


    SNOW CAMP — Mr. Paul Harrell Harris, 86, of Snow Camp passed away at Alamance –Caswell Hospice Home on Feb. 24, 2009. He was a native of Chatham County and the husband of 61 years to Dorothy Chandler Harris, who survives.
    Mr. Harris served his country as a U.S. Marine during World War II. He retired as a long-distance truck driver with Associated Transport and Leeway Trucking companies for over 30 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He was known for his gardening throughout the community, and for managing a small farm. Mr. Harris was a devoted member of South Fork Friends Meeting where he was a member of the William Penn Sunday School Class.
    In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Paulette Grumble, husband Odell; Phyllis Johnson, husband Ray; Michael Harris, wife Judi and Patricia Harris; five grandchildren, Matthew and Stefanie Johnson, Megan Grumble, Heather and Josh Harris, all of Silk Hope; and sister, Pauline Duncan, husband Avery of Miller’s Creek, N.C. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Wesley Michael Harris.
    The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at South Fork Friends Meeting with Ricky Sessoms officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home of Siler City. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alamance-Caswell Hospice and Palliative Care, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215, or to South Fork Friends Cemetery Fund.3, Mr. Paul Harrell Harris
