Kathryn Whitehurst Obituary
MAY 21, 1934 - MARCH 22, 2006

Kathryn Thomasson Whitehurst, 71, of Wilson died Wednesday. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. Dr. Lynn White and Dr. Jack Clifford will officiate. A private burial will follow at a later date.

Mrs. Whitehurst was born and raised in Alamance Countyand graduated from Duke University with a bachelor of arts degree in English. This served as the foundation that began a 40 year teaching career. She was very committed to not only teaching literature and writing, but also sparked a "lifetime passionto learn" for each student fortunate enough to call her "their teacher". She also served as a mentor to many student teachers and fellow teachers that shared her dream of educating students. After a brief period of teaching in Burlington, she married Zeb Whitehurst and moved to Wilson to continue her teaching career. Once in Wilson, she became a member of First Christian Church for the next 38 years. While health problems prevented her from regularly attending church the last 10 years of her life, her strong faith and love of God was demonstrated with her own ministry to family and friends. She strongly believed all things could be dealt with through prayer and listening for God's guidance.

Mrs. Whitehurst is survived by a daughter, Kathy Whitehurst Daughety and husband, Morgan; a son, Zeb M. Whitehurst, IV and wife, Janice; a granddaughter, Jennifer Brooke Whitehurst; a grandson, Zeb M. Whitehurst, V, all of Wilson; a brother, H.R. "Tommy" Thomasson, Jr. and wife, Renee of Elon;two nephews, Todd Thomasson of Elon, Kevin Thomasson and wife, Christina of Raleigh; two grand dogs, Gus and Stella.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Zebulon Montgomery Whitehurst, III.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be directed to First Christian Church, P.O. Box 2702, Wilson, NC 27894.
