DOROTHY LEE CLAPP GUFFEY April 13, 1938 - September 2, 2013

Dorothy "Dot" Guffey, 75, of McLeansville, NC, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013. Born April 13, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Gilmer and Cora Mock Clapp. She is survived by her children, Kimberly Guffey of Waynesville, NC, Jeff Guffey of McLeansville, NC, Tammy (Bryan) Poling of Lancaster, Ohio, and Jay (Laurie) Guffey of Black Mountain, NC; nine grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Norris of Burlington, NC; brothers, Marvin and David (Emily) Clapp, both of McLeansville, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Bessie Greeson of Gibsonville, NC. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Eddie Norris; sister-in-law, Sylvia Clapp; and nephew, Greg Norris. Dot graduated from McLeansville High School in 1956 and was honored to be "Miss McLeansville". She was an active member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she served as hostess; member of the Helpers Circle; counselor of The New Wineskins; and received lifetime membership in the United Methodist Women. She was also actively involved in the school communities of Sedalia Elementary, McLeansville Middle, and Eastern Guilford High Schools; founding member of the McLeansville Lioness Club and past President of McLeansville Fire Department Auxiliary. She spent her days greeting others at Ashton Place, where she lived, and was affectionately known as "the social hostess." Dot will always be remembered for her cooking, her smile, her "never give up" attitude, and her love for her children. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 5th at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church CEC and other times, at the home of Jeff Guffey. Memorial contributions may be made to the McLeansville Fire Department Auxiliary. Online condolences may be offered at
