HATCHER, Ruth C. 77, of Roanoke, died Thursday, March 18, 1993, in a Salem hospital. She was the widow of Herbert C. Hatcher and was an active member of Central Church of the Brethren, where she served on the Board of Deacons. She was retired from the U.S. Forest Service. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Catherine Barbour, Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, Ernest Clapp, Newton, N.C.; a special friend, Deane Duvall Hicks, Roanoke; and three nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel, 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. David A. Yingling. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel after noon Friday.
The North Carolina Birth Index shows her name is Amy Ruth Clapp. In her VA marriage record she did go by Ruth Amy Clapp. They are the same person as her father is listed on both. It also matches a Clapp Family Association book of Genealogy from 1978 at which time she was still living. This book also lists her husband Herbert C Hatcher (also living at that time the book was originally published).
