Obituary Online notes for William Calvin SUMMERS Sr.
2/26/1992

OROFINO A graveside service for William (Cal) Summers will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Weseman Cemetery near Orofino. The Rev. Phil Bonner of the Orofino Tabernacle Church will officiate.

The service will conclude with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Unit of Spokane presiding.

Summers, a retired county grader operator, died of cancer Sunday evening at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. He was 64.

He was born Jan. 5, 1928, at Paonia, Colo., to Rufus L. and Virgie A. Murray Summers.

He was raised at Grand Junction, Colo., until 1943, when the family moved to Phoenix. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1946, serving in the South Pacific.

Summers married Edna Stickens at Weippe Aug. 2, 1947. They made their home at Phoenix, where he worked for Advance Seed and Allied Grain Co. as a plant superintendent for 14 years.

In 1961, they moved to a ranch on the North Fork of the Clearwater River and raised cattle and hogs. When Dworshak Dam was built and the reservoir flooded their property, they moved to the Grangemont area, near Orofino.

He worked for Triplett Logging and Louie Porter Logging, both in the Orofino area, until 1973, when he went to work for the Clearwater County Road Department as a grader operator. He retired in 1989.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling and especially enjoyed going to the Oregon coast.

Survivors include his wife, a son, four brothers, and three sisters [survivors names omitted]. A sister, Eva, died previously.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, in care of Fran Mowrey, West One Bank, Box 1240, Orofino, Idaho 83544.

Pine Hills Funeral Chapel at Orofino is in charge of arrangements.—The Lewiston Tribune Online, Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1992 470, William "Cal" Summers
