Louis George Summers, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Juliaetta with his family by his side.
He was born in Colorado on March 22, 1929 to Rufus and Virginia Summers. He was the youngest of nine siblings. His family setteled in Phoenix, AZ where he met the love of his life, Lois Edwards. They were married on Spet 22, 1950. After several years of running their nursery and landscaping business, in 1963 they moved to Colorado.
He went too work in the woods for several years around the Pierce, Weippe and the O’Mill Area. He eventually gave up on logging and went to work for th eClearwater County Road Department. He worked there as an employess and lake road supervisor up until his retirement. He touched many people’s lives and was liked and respected by many.
After retirement he and his wife were seen at all of their grandsons’ sports activities. many of their friends referred to him as “granpa”. For many years you would find him either on the river, or at the lake fishing. his interests then went from fishing to four-wheeling. Anytime someone would mention going for a ride, he was ready. He spent many years showing peiople the area he had grown to love. His wife of 56 years passed away in 2006.
In 2009, he had some medical issues and decided to move to Juliaetta where his daughter, Debbie lived. he spent every summer there camping and gardening with her and her family. he acquired a very special friend at this time, Keith Reed, Debbie’s companion who becaame his closest friend up until his death.
he is preceeded in death by all his siblings, his wife and oldest son, Louis George Summers Jr. He is survuved by his daughter Debbie Cady and Keith of Juliaetta, his son Danny Summers or Peck and his daughter Alice Lahaie of Orofino, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place and the family will have a private service at a later date.
