KING - Herbert Lee Spainhour, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. He was born in Stokes County February 8, 1916 to William E. and Glida Garner Spainhour. As the oldest of twelve children, he learned hard work, honesty, love of family and the joy of helping others. He was a farmer and co-founder of Spainhour Brothers Grading and Excavating. He worked the land that he loved until this Fall. He is survived by two daughters: Verna Lee Brewer (Walter), Weeta Heath (Clay); two stepsons; Stephen Baker, Chris Baker (Marilyn); and four grandchildren: Brent Brewer (Jondra), Gaye Dye (Rick), Brian Brewer (Edie), Shane Baker; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind four brothers: Robert Dee Spainhour (Faye), Clifton Spainhour, John Henry Spainhour (Rose), Kenneth Spainhour (Dianne); and three sisters: Hazel Davis (Alfred), Rebecca Wall, Frances Hill (Alvin), and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, W. E. Spainhour, Jr.; three sisters, Gertrude Kapp, Jackquline Spainhour, and Augusta Conrad. He was a member of Jefferson Church of Christ where his Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the Service and again following the burial. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 and Missions at Jefferson Church of Christ, 8200 Jefferson Church Road, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
