TOBACCOVILLE, NC ~ William Earnest "Dub" Spainhour, Jr., 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007.
He was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Stokes County to William Earnest "Bill" and Glida Garner Spainhour.
He was a member of King Baptist Mission Church and was the owner-operator of Spainhour Paving Co. in King for many years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty C. "Jo" Spainhour; a son, Chris W. Spainhour; and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice Houck Spainhour; a daughter, Sandy (Danny) Cox; and a son, Gregory Lee Spainhour, both of Tobaccoville; two grandchildren, Austin Lee Spainhour and Teresa M. Cox; three stepdaughters, Joyce (Aaron) Boyles, Vicky (Terry) Slate and Carolyn (Mark) Carter; four step-grandchildren, Candice Slate, Jonathan Boyles, Dalton Carter and Jessica Allen; three step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel (Alfred) Davis, Becky Wall and Frances (Alvin) Hill; and five brothers, Herbert Spainhour, Robert Dee (Faye) Spainhour, Clifton (Betty) Spainhour, John Henry (Rose) Spainhour and Kenneth (Dianne) Spainhour.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Slate Funeral Home in King, with Brother Johnny Bowen and Brother Paul Spainhour officiating. Burial will follow in the King Baptist Mission Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Oct. 23, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Nick Chrysson and the nursing staff for their acts of heartfelt kindness and comfort.
