Madge Hargrove Braxton


    GRAHAM — Madge Hargrove Braxton, 91, of 7519B Lindley Mill Road, Graham, N.C., passed away at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at home. Mrs. Braxton was born on May 18, 1915, in Chatham County, to the late Barney Ross Hargrove and Ruby Della Smith Hargrove, mother, and stepmother, Lillie Buckner Hargrove, and was married 63 years to the late Raymond Harris Braxton. She was a textile employee and homemaker for many years, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Graham, N.C., and the Bethel Memorial Association. She served as a Sunday School teacher numerous years, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Church Choir, and United Methodist Women with specific interest in world missions. Her involvement with the United Methodist Women was at local and district levels. She was also a member of the Alamance County Home Extension, a very talented artist, quilt maker and seamstress.
    Survivors include a son, John Wade Braxton and wife, Judy, of Graham; two grandchildren, Jonathan Christopher Braxton and wife, Wanda, of Graham, Katrina Braxton Coble and husband, Mark, of Graham; four great-grandchildren, John Paul Braxton, Raymond Lacy Braxton, Kyle Anthony Coble, and Kelly Braxton Coble; three half sisters, Nancy Hargrove Wilkie, Peggy Hargrove Moody, Frances "Polly" Hargrove Phillips, all of Siler City, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Matilda Hargrove Campbell, Edith Hargrove Isley; and brother, Barney Ross Hargrove Jr.; and half brothers, Simon Jackson Hargrove and Robert "Bob" Hargrove.
    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at McClure Funeral Home in Graham, and at other times at the home of John Braxton, 7519C Lindley Mill Road, Graham, N.C. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2006, at Bethel Methodist Church, Graham, N.C. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
