Barrett Woodrow “Woody” Tickle
GIBSONVILLE — Barrett Woodrow “Woody” Tickle, age 91, of 6861 Bethel Church Road, died on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at his home after a brief illness.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Quint and Harriet Allen Tickle and was married for over 68 years to Mrs. Dorothy Goodman “Dottie” Tickle, who survives.
Mr. Tickle was the owner and operator of Tickle Furniture and Upholstery for over 60 years and was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and was a member of the Gibsonville V.F.W.
Woody is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Terrence Tickle of Chapel Hill; two half sisters, Willie Morgan and Lucille Calligan, both of Gibsonville; and two half brothers, J.Q. Tickle of Gibsonville and Robert Tickle of Whitsett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Tickle Martin and Grace Tickle Crenshaw; two brothers, Henry Monroe Tickle and Earl Tickle; and a half brother, Barley Tickle.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Gibsonville City Cemetery by the Rev. Jonathan Marlow. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
