Mrs. Eunice Hedrick Ayers, 93, of Arbor Acres, died Friday morning at the Fitzgerald Healthcare Center. Mrs. Ayers was well-known in Forsyth County as a former register of deeds and as a strong influence in the Democratic Party.

She was born in Lexington Jan. 23, 1909, to O.C. Hedrick and Margaret Tickel Hedrick.

She became register of deeds in Forsyth County in 1949 and served until her retirement in 1984. She served on a number of boards and agencies. Mrs. Ayers was an active member of First Christian Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, William Edward Ayers Sr. in 1954. Surviving are her son, William Edward Ayers Jr. and his wife, Patricia Ruff Ayers of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Bill Ayers III and his wife, Shirley, Lynn Ayers, Jeffrey F. Ayers, Gretchen Sperduti, John Christopher Ayers and Joel Dermont Ayers; four great-grandchildren, Will Ayers IV, Jessica and Amanda Sperduti, and Jeffrey Ayers Jr.; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Saunders of Burlington and Mrs. Josephine Rose of Oxford.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Dr. James A. Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home just prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either First Christian Church, 2320 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104; Arbor Acres, 1244 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
