Obituary for Ormond Thomas, Jr

Ormand "Lee" Thomas, Jr, 61, of Straits, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Straits United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Ricky Nelms, pastor of the Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church, presiding.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

Mr. Thomas was born May 17, 1953, in New Bern, to Mary Ellen Thomas, and Ormand Lee Thomas, Sr.

He served his country in the United States Army.

Lee was a quiet man, always kind and loving. His family and friends will miss his gentle voice and smile.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Ellen Thomas, of Straits; two sisters, Diane Benton, of Straits and Margaret T. Johnson, and husband, Chris, of Straits. A brother-in-law, John Culley, of New Bern. Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, his son, Ricky Thomas, a sister, Jeanette Culley, and a brother-in-law, James "Sonny" Benton, preceded him in death.
