Samuel McDuffie Ireland, 70, died Oct. 9, 2003.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Burnett's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Chuck Rowland and the Reverend Harold Shives officiating.
Mr. Ireland was born in Alamance County to Samuel (Kelly) and Nina Annie Way Ireland. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1951. Most of his adult life he worked in the newspaper industry and for 28 was employed with the Greensboro News & Record. He was a member of Burnett's Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Vavrecan of Greensboro and Samala Ireland of Raleigh; his son, Brian Ireland of Siler City; his brother, Harold Lloyd Ireland; and half-brother, Richard Ireland; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Halie Pearson daughters of Tonya M. Vavrecan.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel.
