Wayne Cecil Reece
September 13, 1946 ~ February 26, 2023
76 Years Old
Wayne Cecil Reece, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2023 with his wife by his side.
He was born on September 13, 1946 in Guilford County to the late Charlie Cecil and Paula Elizabeth McDaniel Reece, and was the loving husband of 57 years to Annie June Clapp Reece.
Wayne joined the Navy after high school, working aboard a repair ship and a refrigerated stores ship as a machinery repairman. Upon leaving the Navy, he started work at Wysong & Miles in production and inventory control and retired after working there for 30 years. In 1985 he was certified as a Manufacturing Engineer and became a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He worked many years at Clapp Fertilizer and Trucking, serving local farmers and working alongside Bruce and Wendell Clapp. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and spending time with his family. As an active member of Brick Reformed Church, he served multiple terms as consistory president, and looked forward to the fellowship shared with the community at barbeque and chicken pie suppers.
He is survived by his sister, Faye Bolton; sons, William Cecil Reece and wife Jeanne DuVall, of Whitsett and Wayne Andrew Reece and wife Debi, of Chesapeake, VA; and 4 grandchildren, Geneva Reece, Chris Reece, Nathaniel Reece, and Parker Reece. He was a loved brother-in-law of Bobby and Elsie Bonds, Joan Clapp, David and Billie Fairman, and uncle to many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jean Clapp.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Brick Reformed Church officiated by Rev. Geoff LaLone, with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. There will be a reception for family and friends in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service. At other times the family will be at the residence.
