Jack D. Zimmerman
GREENSBORO, NC - Jack D. Zimmerman, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2017 due to a brief illness.
A 1:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Guilford Baptist Church, 5904 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC, 27409. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday, December 8, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel.
Jack was born October 13, 1925 to the late David Elgavan Zimmerman and Fannie Pritchett Zimmerman. He was the youngest of 14 children. He loved his family and friends and had great passion to serve his community. He was involved in numerous organizations throughout his life with the City of Greensboro and Guilford County, including a 30 year career with the Greensboro Police Department as an officer and detective, co-founder of the Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers (which was very dear to his heart), GTA, Gate City Civitans, Greensboro Neighborhood Watch, Greensboro Municipal Credit Union and the NC Retired Police Officers Association. He also served his county in the U. S. Army. Jack attended several churches through out his life but was most recently attending Emmanuel Wesleyan Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and best friend, Dot Zimmerman. Additionally, he was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters, a sonin-law, Bob Jones, stepdaughter, Beverly Hammond and stepson, Kevin Springer.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Lou Springer Zimmerman and great-grandchild, Natalie, of the home. Also surviving is a son, Maynard Zimmerman (Dianna), daughters, Sherry Z. Jones, Wanda Z. Alverson (Dudley), stepdaughter, Valerie Patterson (Julian), grandchildren, April and Ronnie Rumple, Kim and George Sudderth, Doug and Stephanie Zimmerman, Justin Alverson, Jessica and Rodney Beville, step-grandchildren, Sarah Hammond and Shannon Watts, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-greatgrandchildren.
