Theron I (Gil) Gilliam, 89, of Richmond went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 4, 2018.
He was born on a farm in Alamance County, NC to a large and loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Wesley Gilliam Jr. and Mary Blanche Idol, his brothers Junius (Pearl), Frederick (Ralphene), John (Hilda), Robert, his sister Mary Naomi Sadler (Harry) and his bother-in-law David Davenport.
He is survived by his loving wife, best friend and companion of more than 59 years Sybie Dunn Gilliam; his children and their spouses Tig Gilliam (Janice), Frank Gilliam (Ellen) and Julie Flippen (Lee); his grandchildren Graham and Paige, Alexander, Anna and Christopher, and Amanda and Edward; as well as loving brothers and sisters in Burlington, NC - Bess Davenport, Charles (Ann), William (Polly) and Sara Gilliam, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Elon College and earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He enjoyed a professional career as an auditor at Ernst & Ernst, Executive Vice President and Member of the Board of General Fidelity Life Insurance Company, and Vice President of The Virginia Insurance Reciprocal.
He served in the US Army, served his church as a loyal member and deacon and was a past master of the Masonic Order.
More than anything, he served his family and friends with love and kindness.
His life will be celebrated at Gayton Baptist Church on Saturday, July 21st at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gayton Baptist Church, 13501 North Gayton Road, Richmond, VA 23233-7057.
