Charles G. Gilliam


BURLINGTON - Charles G. Gilliam, 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Duke Regional Hospital after two years of declining health and a brief illness. He was born in Alamance County to the late John Wesley and Mary Idol Gilliam and was married for 62 years to Ann P. Gilliam who survives. He graduated from Altamahaw-Ossipee High School and attended Elon College. He started Gilliam Tire Company along with his brothers in 1954 which later became the Tire Center in 1977. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington where he also sang in the choir. He was a Silver Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League. Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Rick Gilliam (Lisa); daughters, Lu-Ann Gilliam Maner (Barry) and Libby Gilliam Faulkner (Bill); affectionately known as “Chuckie” to his grandchildren, Kelsey and Zack Gilliam, Clay and Abby Maner; sisters, Bess G. Davenport and Sara Gilliam; brother, Bill Gilliam (Polly) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Naomi G. Sadler and brothers, Junius, Fred, John, Robert and Theron Gilliam.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Terry Peele. The family will receive friends with a reception following the service. The graveside service will be private.
