Full name was Joseph Henry David Gilliam. Son of William W. and Julia A. Gilliam of Morton's township in Alamance Co. NC. He had siblings Ann, James E., and Mattie J. Gilliam. Mattie died in 1928. By 1900, his father, William, had died, and his mother remarried to Patterson Apple, still living in Alamance Co. He married Mary (Mollie) Idol. Their known children were Henry D. Jr., William T., and Jessie Mildred Gilliam, who died in infancy. In the 1920 census, he was shown as working for Columbia Laundry as a driver. 470, Joseph Henry David Gilliam
