BURLINGTON — Mrs. Gertrude Faucette Bowland, 98, of Jeffries Cross Road, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Fannie Cobb Faucette.
Mrs. Bowland was a member of Union Ridge Church, where she was a past Sunday School teacher and attended the Golden Age and Hustlers Sunday School Classes. She loved her church family dearly. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for numerous years and in her younger days, she played on a traveling basketball team with McEwen Hosiery for which she was very proud. Her love and joy was her family, especially when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Patterson of Elon; sons, Jimmy Bowland and wife Janice and Keith Bowland and wife Tammy, all of Burlington; grandchildren, Donna Coleman and husband Bryan, Bobbie Keenan and husband Tim, Jamie Kelso and husband Mario, and Brandon Bowland and wife Anna; stepgrandson, Blair Bowland; five loving great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Oliver, of Tennessee; brother, Jack Faucette, of Burlington; caregiver, Denise Edwards; and her best friend, Louise Rainey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Irven Bowland; grandson, James Shawn Bowland; sisters, Carleen Moser, Juanita Minor, and LouEva Barts; brothers, Edwin and Clarence Faucette; and a son-in-law, Marvin Patterson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday June 27, 2016, at the Union Ridge Church with the Rev. Dan Ficklin and the Rev. James L. Rosser officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday in the Union Ridge Church Fellowship Hall and at other times at the residence of her son, Keith, 1417 Jeffries Cross Road, Burlington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union Ridge Church, 115 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
