The headstone has been lost or destroyed. Records show that the headstone read: Sacred to the Memory of Elizabeth Devault who departed this life November 9th A. D. 1798; 32 years, 11 months, and two weeks. How loved, how valued once, avails thee not, To whom related or by who begot, A heap of dust alone remains of thee, 'Tis all thou art and all the proud shall be."

Valentine DeVault, was born 1769 in NC, and died 12 Feb 1833 in Guilford County, NC. He married (1) Elizabeth Rudisill.
