Obituary Online notes for Col. “Jack” Ledewey Ellis ALLEN Jr.
He graduated from UNC with a degree in Physics. Col. Allen served 30 years in the U. S. Air Force beginning as a glider pilot in World War II and serving in areas such as nuclear weapons supervisor at Los Alamos Labs in New Mexico, as LaunchDirector for three Vela and seven NASA GeminiRendezvous launches. He was an active member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, serving in numerous areas. Jack had a strong faith in God and was an inspiration to all who knew and came in contact with him, alwaysproviding comfort, encouragement and love. Col. Allen was predeceased in 1993 by his first wife of 45 years, Jeannette (Greene)Allen.
Survivors include his present wife, Geraldine Shoaf-Allen of Melbourne; sister,Winifred (and RD) Newnam of Durham, N.C.; son, LeDewey E. Allen, III of Seattle, Wash.; daughter, Nancy (and Dean) Meyer of Watertown, Wisc.; grandsons, Christopher Allen, Forest Meyer and Hunter Meyer; granddaughters, Alissa Allen and Autumn Meyer; and great-granddaughter, Kandice Meyer. 470, Col LeDewey Ellis Allen, Jr-
