Mr. John Quint “J.Q.” Tickle


    GIBSONVILLE — Mr. John Quint “J.Q.” Tickle, age 89, of 6561 Bethel Church Road, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after several months of failing health.
    A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Quint and Lydia Lowe Tickle and was married to the late Fern Stewart Tickle, who died in 1999. John was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theater. He retired from Johnson Control Inc. with more than 25 years of service and was of the Christian faith. He loved his horses and his dogs and treated them as part of the family.
    Mr. Tickle is survived by his daughter, Lydia Ellen Tickle of the home; daughter-in-law, Doris Oakes Tickle of Burlington; two sisters, Lucille Calligan and Willie Mae Morgan, both of Gibsonville; and a brother, Robert Tickle of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, John Kennard Tickle; parents; two sisters, Ruth Martin and Grace Crenshaw; and four brothers, Burley Tickle, Earl Tickle, Henry Tickle and Woodrow Tickle.
    A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Powell Sykes. The family will receive friends from 5-8 Wednesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1126 W. Webb Ave., Burlington, NC 27215.
