Donald “Donnie” Richard Lewis, Sr.
ELON - Donald “Donnie” Richard Lewis, Sr., 75, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2019.
He was the husband of 56 years to Linda Tucker Lewis who survives.
He was the son of the late Kenneth Bunyan and Alice Troxler Lewis.
Donnie retired from Sears as the assistance manager after 24 years. He was employed as a mechanic for over 20 year with Lewis Motor Service. Donnie was a longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Usher, RA Leader and chairman of the Seniors Committee. Donnie received his GED from ACC when he was 70 and completed his course work in 2 months. He enjoyed repairing lawnmowers, wood working, gardening and fishing. Donnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Linda T. Lewis of the home; son, Ritchie Lewis and wife, Heather of Elon; daughter, Donnette Reichl and husband, Jeff of Reidsville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Margie Coble and husband John of Burlington and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerry Lewis, Charlie Lewis, William Lewis and Robert Holt Lewis and sister, Clarice Lewis Somers.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11am at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Tucker and Rev. David Grinnell.
The burial will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church, c/o The Building Fund, 3445 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, NC 27244.
