Joanna Thompson Irwin
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Joanna Thompson Irwin, 74, of 1711 Erwin Avenue, Burlington, died at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 7:35 p.m. following several years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Vencil R. Irwin and the daughter of Harrison Thompson and Elsie Allen Thompson, both deceased. She retired from Duke Power with 35 years of service. She was a member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church, taught Sunday school and served on several church committees.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Joan Irwin Barber and husband, Timothy, of Gibsonville; a son, Mr. Jeffrey Andrew Irwin of Burlington; a grandson, Jacob Barber; and three sisters, Mrs. Opal Branson Isley of Snow Camp, Mrs. Betty Jean Pollock of Woods Town, N.J., and Mrs. Cora Lee Gibson of Snow Camp.
She was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.
The funeral will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Wade Cox and the Rev. E. Reid Dickens. Entombment will follow the service in the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other times they will be at the residence.
