MCLEANSVILLE— Paul Browning Phipps, age 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. The internment will immediately follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Phipps was born on Nov. 14, 1913, in Guilford County. Paul was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and the former president of Phipps Hardware and Gifts, which was located in downtown Greensboro. Mr. Phipps was also an active member in the Sons of Confederate Veterans Col. John Sloan Camp #1290 in Greensboro.

Paul Phipps is survived by his daughters, Joanne P. Sharpe and Paula P. McMillan and husband Jim, all of Greensboro. He is also survived his sister, Effie Whittle and husband Arthur of Greensboro; five grandchildren, James Kenneth Sharpe and wife Katie, Stephen Browning Sharpe and wife Pam, Joseph Martin Sharpe, Dana Anne White and husband Tripp York, and Jason Browning White and wife Paige; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Phipps.


The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home on N. Elm St.

Memorials may be sent to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church at 5120 Burlington Road, Greensboro, NC 27405.
