Albert Lloyd Ward


    GIBSONVILLE, N.C. — Albert Lloyd Ward, age 86, of E. Joyner Street in Gibsonville went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of 68 years to Mary Elizabeth Simpson Ward who survives.
    Albert was employed for over 20 years with Overnite Trucking Company and he later retired from Sonoco Products. Albert continued to work in his retirement as a courier for Burlington Honda and Rapid Transit. He was a charter member of Piedmont Baptist Church where he served in the past as Sunday School Class President and trustee. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and was active in VFW Post 2972 in Gibsonville and was a former member of VFW Post 10607.
    Survivors include his wife of thehome;daughtersandsonsin-laws, Barbara Ann Williams of Gibsonville, Patricia "Pat" Mae and Phillip Millikan of Elon, Kathy and Vic Andrews of Gibsonville; grandchildren and spouses, Wally (Penny) Williams, Rex (Margie) Williams, Michael (Cathy) Millikan, Stephen Millikan and Kenneth (Shelby) Andrews; 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren;
sister, Lena Terrell of Gibsonville; brother, Ed Lee Ward of Lee Heights, Florida.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Ida Mae Cox Ward; grandson, David Millikan; son-in-law, Wallace Williams Sr. and a sister, Fannie Younger; brothers, Woodrow and Frank Ward.
    The family would like the VFW Post #2972 and #10607 members to serve as honorary pallbearers for the funeral service.
    The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 4 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mike Jones and the Rev. Jim Racke and the burial will follow with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army at Alamance Memorial Park.
    The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
    Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Baptist Church, P.O. Box 66, Altamahaw, N.C. 27202 or the donors’ favorite charity.
