Mary Frances Penry Reece, 98, passed away Thursday March 5, 2020 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
A funeral service will be held Sunday March 8, 2020 2:00 pm at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, 2400 Mt. Hope Church Rd., Whitsett, NC 27377. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Forbis and Dick North Elm St. Chapel, 1118 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
Mary was born February 3, 1922 in Guilford County, NC to the late Robah Penry and his wife, Margaret Joyce Gant Penry. She was very active in the ministry of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ and instrumental in establishing the Friends and Neighbors Group and a member of the Women’s Circle at the church. She was also one of the original members of the Good Earth Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Reece; her daughter, Grace Reece Whitesell; four brothers; three sisters; and son-in-law, Larry Prevost.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Reece Simpson and Gail Reece Prevost; her son, Wesley Reece (Tammy); son-in-law, Gary Whitesell; her brother, Norman Penry (Bertha); sister-in-laws, Ida Penry, Lenor Reece; grandchildren, Dustin Whitesell, Deana Whitesell, Kyle Whitesell, Chad Simpson, Erica Prevost, Jefferson Prevost, Chelsea Prevost, Brittany Reece, Chris Layton, Shannon Layton; great-grandchildren, J.J., Cooper, Kiley, Austin, Michael, Peyton, Leaila, Colton, Olivia, Sadie, Chase.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, General Fund or the Community Outreach Fund, 2400 Mt. Hope Church Rd., Whitsett, NC 27377.
