Paul Hoyle

    BURLINGTON — Paul Hoyle, age 80, of 4000 Birkdale Court, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

    A native of Vance County, N.C., he was the son of the late Earnest Edward and Mary Delilah Faulkner Hoyle and the husband of the late Betty Hicks Hoyle for 59 years.

Mr. Hoyle held the H&R Block franchise for 45 years after being in management with Western Electric for 10 years. He was a longtime member of Holly Hill Baptist Church, a former director with Carolina Bank, an avid golfer, enjoyed his Alaska fishing trips with his best friends for the last 16 years, he loved Duke basketball and enjoyed many Final Fours. He was a graduate of Elon College and a Navy Seabee.

    Survivors include his daughters, Jan Rene Hoyle of Burlington, Teresa Lynn H. Strausbaugh and husband, Bill, of Burlington, and Robin Leigh H. Smith and husband, Lenwood, of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Amy Hoyle, Bill and Laura Strausbaugh and Katie and Lissie Smith; brothers, Beacham H. Hoyle of Burlington, the Rev. Bobby Hoyle of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters, Catherine Michael, Ruth Qualls and Pauline Tate, all of Burlington, and Bertha Mae Mullins of Cincinnati, Ohio.

    He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Alfred Hoyle, the Rev. Earl Hoyle, Robert B. Hoyle, Henry T. Hoyle, Vernon G. Hoyle and Ernest W. Hoyle; sister, Rosa Robinson. Paul was a husband, father, friend, brother and "dad" to many.

    Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Grove Park Baptist Church by the Rev. Garry Baldwin, the Rev. Drew Gay and the Rev. Jonathan Harrison. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Hoyle will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to Holly Hill Baptist Church at 5 p.m. Thursday, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
