Marie Troutman Smith Grissom


    BURLINGTON — Marie Troutman Smith Grissom, age 91, of Catherine Drive, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at the Hospice Home.
    A native of Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of John Wesley and Ida Summers Troutman and wife of the late Samuel Moore Smith and Robert D. "Bob" Grissom. She spent many years in retail sales both at The Hitching Post and Tasty Bakery. She was a very active member of Grove Park Baptist Church, where she was on the Baptismal Committee and a member of the Merry Bells.
    Survivors include her son, Samuel W. Smith and wife, Lynn, of Fayetteville; daughter, Karen D. Hardy and husband, Jack, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Staci Smith and Jason Hardy; brothers, Jack Troutman and wife, Darelene, of Burlington, and Fred Troutman of Gibsonville.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; sister, Louise Barringer; and brothers, Hal and John Troutman.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Eugene Hunsinger. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mrs. Grissom will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church Saturday morning, where the family will receive friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
